Under the heading “Krinzinger Projekte,” Galerie Krinzinger organizes exhibitions in the renovated rooms of a former factory. The exhibition space on the fourth and top floor is long and narrow (2000 x 450 cm / 65 x 15 ft). One of the room’s long walls contains windows. A pair of railway tracks embedded in the wooden board floor runs down the length of the room, indicating its former use.
An ensemble of unframed drawings in several techniques and formats on different papers and showing a variety of motifs has been mounted on the wall facing the windows. In addition to moiré patterns of overlapping brushwork grids, spill spots, drawings with spray-paint superimpositions, reproduced gestural brushstrokes, portraits, group portraits, ghosts, chimaeras, and caricatures, there are architectural views, ladders, and as a dominant leitmotif, trees: views into treetops.
This foliage of drawings is ordered in accordance with a simple compositional principle. A horizontal strip running down the wall at half height has been left blank. Located at an average-height beholder’s eye level, it subjects the excessive surfeit of the drawings to the formal rigor of a horizontal mirror reflection. This “blind” strip passes through the exact center of the pictorial space, which renders it a guide rail through the long exhibition space.
